International Journalism Centre Celebrates National Press Day
Noida: The International Journalism Centre (IJC), in collaboration with the ICMEI and AAFT School of Mass Communication and Journalism, celebrated National Press Day with great fervor at Marwah Studios, Film City, Noida.
Observed annually on November 16th, National Press Day stands as a symbol of a free and responsible press in India. This commemorative day marks the establishment of the Press Council of India, which has played a pivotal role as a moral watchdog to ensure that the press upholds high standards of integrity and remains uninfluenced by external pressures or threats.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sandeep Marwah, Chair of the International Journalism Centre, stated, “The Press Council of India is unique, as it is the only entity globally that exercises authority even over state instruments to safeguard the independence of the press. This embodies its commitment to preserving press freedom and ensuring ethical journalism.”
The theme for this year’s event, “Changing Nature of the Press,” highlighted the transformative dynamics of the media landscape. Discussions emphasized the crucial role of the Press Council of India in adapting to these changes while continuing its mission to protect press freedom and uphold ethical standards in journalism.
The event witnessed participation from students, media professionals, and industry experts, all of whom engaged in insightful deliberations on the evolving responsibilities of the press in today’s fast-changing media environment.
